I’ve been on Makerworld a while. 6.2k downloads and 4.6k prints on my most popular model. Though it has another 11.7k on printables. 😅

What do you have in mind for a colab? A joint profile?
edit: Alex, had a look at your Makerworld profile, and have a tip for you: Always make your cover picture (the 1st one) a photo of the print, not a render or the CAD screenshot. People click on a model much more if the first thing they see is that actual printed item. There’s a lot of poorly printable models on all platforms that just have renders, people tend to shy away from those when they search for things. If they see a clean print photo, that’s much more inviting.

I really dont mind what it is.
Just a chance to share ideas and skills.
Could be very simple. Could be an existing model that’s improved with better design or a totally new concept.
Suggest the objective to get at least 1 download.
Suggest a couple of constraints:
1. Small - fit on Bambu A1m build plate and print time no longer than 1 hour (for any single part).
2. Minimal supports.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll keep it in mind.
To be honest, I’ve never really had a goal of becoming particularly successful on MakerWorld. I mostly just uploaded things I made for myself that I thought might also be useful to others. At the same time, I never upload anything I’ve been paid to make — in other words, anything I’ve made for a client.
It also doesn’t include most of what I usually work on, such as CNC projects and other mechanical designs. 3D printing is more of a hobby for me and a useful tool for solving practical problems around the house.

It’s a hobby for me, too. But it’s nice when it’s self-financing. With the reward points and cash-payouts for exclusive models I don’t pay for filaments and parts anymore.

Same here. The one mentioned model take care of all my 3d printing needs. I even got spare A1 mini for free 🙂
BTW panning to order another 10kg of PLA soon.

Design together if you like. We can perhaps overlap our interests and see if there is common ground.
Or we can go totally left field.
Idea Board → select 1 to work through by majority.
Each have a go at design → maybe bring together best bits.
Finalise / test
Upload.
No pressure, no ego, no deadlines, no drama.
It’s as much an exercise in skill sharing, celebrating 3d printing and the software platform we enjoy - as opposed to producing something that changes the world.

Just order 6 of Bambu basic silver. In bulk was around £10.80 per kilo. I remember Bambu filament being really expensive.
I think we can go useful. I work in waste, recycling and sustainability and like to produce things of practical value.

Last time i cashed in my points I ordered 18kg of filaments, a build plate and a couple of tungsten carbide nozzles. 😅
Now I have enough points again for another shipment of that size. Oh the choice paralysis. 🤣
I’d be game to make something small and useful. I have text file somewhere with a long list of random print ideas, I’ll go over it and try to find some suitable ones when I get the chance.

My suggestion - something based around this common household thread.
Why -
Surely everybody has these in use or broken. The waste stream is full of them. Millions are sold every year.
If we can extend their life (repair / reuse - top of the waste hierarchy) then we make a positive contribution to sustainability.
Whether the threads are the same from country to country we can investigate, but they are all made in China so should be fairly ubiquitous. Either way if we get the method of modelling down we can easily adjust to suite our region.
Once we get the thread correct we can build a number of useful add-on off it. Dust cup. Hook. Extension, coupler for other existing things. We could each publish a different version.
Technical Challenge
This thread appears to be slightly tapered so a bit of a challenge compared to a thread made with a simple straight horizontal revolve. Its also quite widely spaced.
Tolerance understanding.
Small size, within the constraints set out - in terms of the immediate challenge of replicating.
Just a thought. As indicated before - no ego, no drama so feel free to critique.

I can model this kind of thread easily, I only need physical reference to check after print.

Made a reference cone. Made a regular revolve. Intersected. Used result as a guide for sweep.
This old technique can be used to make much more complex shape for thread like things.
