Hi all,

I’m trying to create a spiral/spring in a conic shape. I created a non-conic spiral with the revolve tool, but sadly am not able to make it conic. I’d like to have a spring that sits tightly around a cone, therefore the spring has to also be conic (tighter on one side than the other)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
While there is not a direct solution to that, you can follow the process below ;

Add a constructive plane through the middle of the cone, see below:
 ![image](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/0/015f3962e111a09f712c47df8ad03b3760197b2e.jpeg)

Double tap on the new plane, Sketch in 2D over it (the appropriate angle of the spiral), below:
 ![image](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/8/8c9b22a6f0323f790757f121862aae958ee0fbf9.jpeg)

Use Project tool to project the 2D sketch on the conical surface, the result will be as in the below vid:

You might want to add cross section to the wire, simply add the cross section to the beginning of the spiral and then use the sweep tool, etc.

Have fun

Thanks a lot! Will try that out. I’m pretty new to the CAD game, appreciate the detailed instructions!
