# Exporting should keep file type

**The problem that this feature will solve:**

_Currently, when you export and pick the filename from the list, it does not adjust the filetype extension to match the file type. Example below - exporting as 3mf, instead of previously exported stl._

Selecting the previous filename, just copies the whole filename and hence the file type is incorrect.

**Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:**

The file type extension is changed to match the export type. So selecting ‘bracket.stl’ would export as ‘bracket.3mf’ (given that 3mf has been selected as the file type). Most application I use do this.

**What can’t you achieve without this feature?**

_It’s annoying when one has to edit the filetype extension. Another example of a lack of appreciation for UI/UX from the devs._

Still not fixed! Perhaps it should be reported as a bug rather than a feature request?
