While extruding a shape to change the outline of an object or body, sometimes the wrong body does the cutting. It’s like I’m using a soft stick of butter to shave an object, but instead the target object ends up cutting a negative into the “butter”

I have subtract enabled.

How do I prevent the nail from putting a hole into the hammer?

As you are dragging the face you should see a little blue thingy you can click on and change attributes of the operation: New body; Subtract etc..
