# Fully parametric folding laptop stand, designed and printed from scratch

We designed a fully parametric laptop stand where one variable drives the whole model. Change it and the base bars, adjustable bar, notches, pins and folding mechanism all resize to fit. A second variable controls wall thickness, so you can trade off looks against print time and material.
It’s a big project and we’re excited to share it with you.
**Modeling flow**
You can watch the entire modeling flow (80 min). The last 20 minutes are the model breaking when we change the screen size and us fixing it: overlapping fillets, missing references, a sketch that lost its geometry.

12 min of printing v1, finding what didn’t work, and iterating. Snap-fit pins were too small for FDM → redesigned as elastic pins that act as their own spring. PLA was too stiff → decided to go with PETG.

**Important note**
The model is tested, optimized, and printed for the 15" display version. This version also works on smaller laptops, but other screen sizes have not yet been tested or optimized.
We hope you enjoy the model and the process of putting it together. This, by all means, is not the final version, it can use some improvements and we plan to keep working on the model. But until them, feel free download, modify and play around with it. If you remix it or improve on it, even better. We’re curious to see what you can do with the design!
