# Imported 3D DWG file, imports as 2D

When trying to import 3D files (dwg, dxf) they import into Shapr3d in 2D. Using latest version of Shapr3D for iPadOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello PeterF,
Shapr only imports 2D via .dxf and .dwg imports. It’s been like that since day one I believe.
You will need to import the drawing into another program and then convert as a workaround.

Thanks for the info Cjacob.
Seems like this would make sense to add as a main function/ability for Shapr3d to have in its arsenal. World works on dwg and dxf.
Can you or anyone here suggest free conversion tools from dwg, dxf into Shapr3d readable formats?

Hello PeterF,
I use VIACAD Pro to convert 3D dxf/dwg file formats.
Not something I do all the time mind you. So not sure about the free conversion tools as I haven’t checked.
