# Is there anyway to create more STL controls for export? Custom is still not developed enough?

Im really enjoying learning and using Shapr3d but he STL export controls are very crude compared to other modeling softwares. Is there any plans to improve it?

For instance, when I export a model as an stl and use either fine or custom, it produces a very low number of triangles. Certainly not enough for a good 3d print?

Not to question your point, but could you give some background? I print all from demos, mockups, real-life testing, and working parts (to minuscule models for my own enjoyment). I have not encountered any limits in FDM or STL.

Hi BKE,

I can say only that the models that I’m exporting from Shapr3d (even with the custom setting) are very faceted and a low triangle count compared to what I get from Fusion 360 or Rhino 3d. Are you 3d printing your models?

I export STLs to print all the time, and in my experience on “high” settings the exported geometry is a very dense mesh. Never had any issues with it being too faceted.

Additionally you can turn arc-welding on in your slicer (if yours supports it), and your geometry will be smoothed out in all the places it counts in the gcode. But in any case, the high setting should be more than dense enough for it to be imperceptible in the finished print. Always is in mine.
