Hi guys,

I’m trying to make a piece of wrist armour with intricate detailing & I can’t for the life of me figure out how to best approach it…

This is what I’m trying to replicate:-

![266C41C5-166A-4BD5-9D9D-E5560E50844F](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/5/5657ef1d82392a4997b42862c0df35e8d12b64ef.jpeg)

And here’s where I am with it so far:-

![24525C6E-5E18-4FBA-992B-E65EF33DE3FF](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/f/fa742b7f01655d6fdd93b4058437032d55dfc091.jpeg) ![108E1748-B503-4A5E-83F8-28F2E5BB4F90](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/1/1dcebf7d347c30d9694ccc3d5a73cbde09208bb6.jpeg)

Due to the curved shape, it’s very difficult to get the rest of the detailing carved out. Is it possible to draw a flat piece like the following:-

![5087A75A-4060-4169-B705-0EC1E83AFB43](https://cdck-file-uploads-us1.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/flex002/uploads/shapr3d/original/2X/6/6d2912cd8e708c3fe6c0bafb79e1045e143f2d73.jpeg)

… and extrude it a few mm, and then curve it after the details have been carved out? I don’t think this is possible, but had to ask…

Any other advice greatly appreciated,

Thanks
Rob

No, unfortunately you can’t bend bodies ☹ The way how you approached it is the best way to do it.

I have an idea for an approach that might work but don’t have the time right now to develop.

Basically project (Replace face) segments of the art onto the guard in a piece wise manner. You need to experiment with angle (20 degrees shown), number of steps, depth, etc. Hope this helps…

Best,

Tommy

Thanks mate good idea that. I ended up creating a octagon inside the piece & extruded shapes from that to carve. It wasn’t the best idea as I was still using the translate/rotate to fine-tune some pieces.

Not my best work, but it’s not bad.

I guess I’ll go & print it now 🙂

And the print. Came out pretty badly but I was experimenting with settings a bit…

A guy in my 3D Printing Group prints this type of model flat in ABS and then dips it in hot water and wraps it around an arm-like mandrel FYI.

Best,

Wow interesting way to tackle the problem… I wonder if it’d work with PLA 🤔

I can’t imagine using this method would keep the details flawless though…
