Really need the ability to wrap sketches around curved faces. I am developing curved sheet metal parts and I need to add tabs to the metal around the curve. At present, I have to do this in OnShape because Shapr3d can’t do it.

I totally agree this is useful feature but can you show examples of the work you can’t achieve in the S3D now?

I am making pinball ramps that will eventually be cut from sheet metal. I need to project a number of tabs onto curved shapes without distortion for later assembly. Like the picture below.

Well don’t forget about unwrap!

Perhaps you can use the Sweep tool?

No, I can build the ramp very easily without the sweep tool but once the ramp is built it is impossible to easily project tabs or other features onto the curved surfaces without lots of hacks or distortion. Other programs like onshape can do this quite easily with the wrap feature.

Here’s a bit of a brute force approach. I see by your sketch that it looks like you are looking for a bayonet assembly at the tabs. I don’t think that will work due to the curved wall.

If you do need a bayonet type of assembly, here’s a way to make the tab (shown without adjustment for clearance).

Thanks Mike. That’s a cool approach that I will try. Does it work if the ramp is both curved as well as elevated over the length of that curve? Also, I’m not sure what you mean by “bayonet” approach. Ultimately, the tabs will poke through holes in the floor, and will be twisted after assembly to hold the parts together.

Yes, I believe it will work if the ramp is on a compound angle. What you are showing is a classic example of a ‘bayonet’ assembly.

This was tricky to model. I ran into some Subtract issues. Anyway I believe this is what you want to do. Again, I believe there will be a problem with multiple tabs along the curve and trying to do the bayonet method of assembly.
