When I draw a table leg in front view, then I try to change view with my finger, it rotates around the x,y plane instead of z plane. I assume that when drawing in front view the z plane is vertical and x,y are horizontal, is this correct?

Camera always orbits relative to the grid. Thus if the grid is on the XY plane, the camera will orbit around the Z axis, but if the grid is on the ZX plane the camera will orbit around the Y axis.
