# Shape selection assistance

How can I select one face of an object without it selecting another face next to it? I am trying to build a gear. Also, how do I select just one triangle and not the circle and the other triangles? Does your Items list show 3 bodies? Two triangles and a round disc?  
I ask because it appears your two triangles and disc is one solid body, not three.
