Please follow the format below for requesting a feature.

**The problem that this feature will solve**

In the field I work in more and more complex shapes are being created by computer drawing this will solve the complexity of developing a shape by hand as the time frames are becoming shorter

**Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:**

_The ability to unwrap a surface of a complex shape ,normally a curve on curve and be able to send multiple patterns to be cut to speed up production_

**What can’t you achieve without this**

It’s slows down the process needed for finishing a piece , also have to use another program like rhino to be able to do the unwrap

My question is is this a feature the team is working on or is it not something you have in mind for the future ?

Thank you

Hey Phil, can you share specifics of your use case please? Which Rhino tool(s) do you use currently as a workaround? A screenshot of an example geometry would be very helpful to us.

Thanks,
David

Hello!

In my field, complex shapes are increasingly designed digitally, but unwrapping their surfaces manually slows production and requires external software like Rhino. A built-in feature to unwrap curve-on-curve surfaces and generate multiple cut patterns would streamline workflow, save time, and reduce reliance on other tools. Is this something your team is currently developing or considering for future updates?

Hi, here is an example of the kind of shapes we deal with And some screenshots this is a basic stringer and I know how to manually unroll this , but for speed I import it into rhino as a step file . explode surface copy surface and then unroll surface , then reimport it into shap3r this is quite long winded and not all people have access to rhino ,the new isolate function helps this process but to have this feature in this program would be so handy ,

I deal with quite a few developments of shaped ellipses ,volutes , helix , ect , I’ve attached some photos and hopefully this helps

Thank you

phil

Hi,
I see simple shape in your screenshot. Perhaps you can use Measure tool quite simply.

Hi , @jean-philippe2
Thank you for the reply ,that shape was just an example of how to unroll with rhino , I will attach a more complex shape to assist in this example

I’m still wondering if the team could answer my question about whether a tool like this is being thought about added ?

Heres a roof that could do with the help of unroll

measuring that would not work unfortunately

Hi,

I am neither a developer nor a moderator.

The problem mentioned here is recurrent. We all ask for such a tool.

Personally, I export to MoI3D, Plasticity or Onshape to do this kind of thing.

Hello again. @jean-philippe2 and thank you for your reply I know it has been asked but I am interested whether it’s something in development or something that’s not been thought about at all , either answer will help me then at least I’ll know what i have to do to solve this issue

Thanks

Thanks @jean-philippe2
I’m more interested in the response from the mods , I can export and reimport , it’s just that that’s a long process , and means carrying a laptop and iPad around , I love the iPad portability and ease of use without a mouse or desk it’s really portable

Hi,
Yes the Free Version.
And you can upload a lot of free FeatureScript as Sketch Wrapper

That is a very unintuitive UI I couldn’t find the unwrap /Flatten feature anywhere

Rhino is easier by a mile I just don’t like drawing with it

Honestly seems like Shapr3D is just not interesting in adding these highly requested features. Sheet metal tools (Unwrap), thread tools and gear tools, etc.

Hi @Cleeder

Thanks for the reply , if that’s the case I wish they could they just say so ?

And I don’t see why not as it would only improve the program and probably increase subscriptions

Nobody can really say. It seems their priorities are elsewhere.

The touch based UI of Shapr is _completely amazing_ and is what got me to finally break into CAD. It feels so much more natural to sit down with a digital pen and a tablet to design things. It got even better when Shapr went parametric, which was a necessary move and certainly no small undertaking.

Unfortunately, Shapr continues to fall flat on a significant portion of basic things I would like to use it for, and that is making it hard to maintain a subscription.
