# When does one use construction planes

What are the rules when using construction plane ie, under which circumstances must one use a construction plane?

A couple of examples: if you want to split a body (cutting plane), if you want to project to a new sketch from a body/face/edge/sketch (if you don’t have a convenient face to project to).
