# Will aftermarket / third party Pencils work?

I just picked up an 11” iPad pro, without a pencil. Looking to save cash and grab a knock-off Apple Pencil (specifically an active stylus) for ~$30, many of which have good reviews.

Anyone done this? Will they show up as compatible with the first party Pencil and apps which require it like Shapr3D?

My friend bought a pen off Amazon. Had nothing but issues. Had to buy an Apple pencil, so he spent more than necessary to get the Apple. Not worth the risk in my mind.

Hi @halr9000 Welcome to the Forum

Do not under any circumstances buy an Alternative Pencil without testing it first, i.e., if you cannot return it for a Full Refund or Exchange [+ extra funds] for an Apple Pencil.
