My life is my education.
For the first 20 years I did construction (heavy equipment/ Pipe fitting/ finish carpentry/ framing/ electrical/ plumbing/ steel work/ painting, etc. On purpose, to learn everything I wanted to know about building.
The next 16 years I learned to do PCB design, Test fixture design, a little 3D case design, graphic/web design, technical support, etc for a small electronics co. I was their “technical guy”. The boss/owner, like myself was self taught He gave me the chance.
I am now a self employed service tech.
Service techs must repair or make work what Engineers “often” fail to design properly.
IMO Engineers “are in training” until you’ve had at least 10 years out in the field working on other’s poor designs. And there are lots of poor designs!
Designers/ Engineers rarely think about the person who has to work on installing or repairing their designs.
You should consider asking the guy who has to repair it and or build it before you finalize the design.
