Apple Pencil Pro Support

Hello , this is my first post to the community.

I have the Ipad Pro 13” with the Pencil Pro and I would love to see the squeeze feature on the pencil be utilized for new abilities in the application.

For example when in a sketch , it could be used to quickly access the sketch tools that are normally on the tool bar.

This would mean that i am moving my hand around less, which leads to less fatigue .

Yes please! A radial tool menu would be so great and ease some of my workflows for sure.

Welcome!

YES Please. We need support for Pencil Pro!

The iPad/pencil combo is so superior for CAD and IMHO the biggest justification for Shapr3D existence. But lately that interface has been neglected, I guess in order to make the codebase easier to maintain for cross platform support. That’s really sad.

But sticking to the cross platform unity, it should be straight forward to:

  1. Utilize the new hover feature just like the “mouse over”. Would be helpful especially over the tools buttons, so you can have the Labels “on hover” and save space on the small ipad screen.
But also in the History list.
(Of topic: For some reason, mouse over (on mac) does not do anything in the Items list. Would seem logical, if it had a similar function as it does in the History list)

  2. Make the double tap work as a right mouse click. The right click context menu on an object, (zoom to, isolate, hide/show*, select all, etc) would be very welcome on iPad.

(off topic: The “right click” in the History could also help clean up that weird “tap and hold, short” and “tap and hold, long” behaviour in that list. Never found that intuitive, plus it’s inefficient. The waiting if you have to delete stuff. You delete one, just to realize you need to delete another. Maybe I should learn the habit of using the select function to delete more, but I like to see what breaks, step by step.
Obviously only works for pencil pro, so a better swipe right/left actions/menus would be better maybe. Just leave the tap and hold to drag/rearrange.)

  1. Use the Squeeze gesture for temporary zooming while drawing/manipulating stuff. A little like the mouse wheel.

  2. Not so sure about the roll gesture. Could be like the mouse wheel.
Or it might be more useful for changing “sub-tools” or tool-mode or whatever the official name is. Like changing between line/arc, offset:loop/single, rectangle: center/3-pt/diag etc, but WHILE you are “in the tool”. So change from center to diagonal, after you have placed the first point. For me, that’s often where I realize the wrong mode is selected. And then you have to click again to finish the object, undo and start over. Would be cool if you could change on the fly.

Having written all this, I realize Shapr3D is not the only one having a Mac and iPad version of the same app. So maybe there is a kind of standard emerging for how the new Pencil gestures does mouse stuff…nah. That’d be too easy, right

On the radial menu.

As I understand, the iPad UI is intended to be used with the pen in one hand and that same hand used for pan/zoom.

The other hand controls the tools/buttons on the edge… That all works great for me.
Or it did, until HBPM came along. Now it seems I spend more time opening and closing the History and Items lists.

So a radial tools menu is not on the top of my list. But maybe a way to open the extra “settings” you get in the history list, in a popup of sorts. So you don’t HAVE open and close the list to change the values not shown on the model..

And the same for the Items list. But as written in the other post, making the double tap work as a right click, will do that. So if the parameters from the History was added to the right click, when we would have a time saver.
