Museum display with .dxf export for CNC milling

I was able to create a model for a base for a display unit at the museum where I work as a fabricator. The .dxf export feature let me send the part files to a local CNC router shop who milled the parts. Assembly started yesterday, and the unit will be completed with a veneer wrap next week.

That’s really cool. Why the circular holes in the cut outs?

Thank Jared. Cutouts were for

  1. Weight reduction
  2. Further assembly to fasten top to this base.

Here it is all ready to ship to an exhibition.
I used S3D for the crate layout as well.

Thats super neat! Thanks for sharing

That is so good and similar to a display I’m working on for an exhibition using the same materials. We used vector works for it though but I am going to have a go at using shapr3d to recreate it.

How are you attaching the segments to the centre post?

Hi Bill

Haven’t got to that yet - this was part of a suite of things that were developed for visualisation. The next stage is to develop them with the fabricator. I will share the solution when it comes.
Best wishes
