Season 1 Challenge #1 is DONE | Parametric Sketching 1/5

The task

Create a parametric model of a triquetra. The model must be controlled by two independent driving parameters (variables). By modifying these two driving parameters, the model must transition from State A to State B without breaking constraints, inverting, or producing errors.

Fixed Dimensions: A

Driving Parameters: B and C

Driven Dimensions: The dependent arcs, tangencies, and construction geometry required to maintain the interlocking shape.

IMPORTANT RULE: Design history tree should only contain Sketches and Extrusions. The use of any other features will result in an invalid submission.

Submit your CAD file through this link by the end of the week on Sunday.

Your results are going to be shown on the leaderboard after the submissions are evaluated.

Scoring reminder

  • Complete the challenge → earn 10 completion point

  • Complete the challenge successfully → earn 6 success points

  • First 5 people to submit gets → 5-4-3-2-1 points

  • Stay consistent across the challenge → after 3 participations you get 3 extra points, after all 5 participations you get additional 10 points

Good luck. If you get stuck, ask here. The only rule is don’t share your solution until the end of the challenge.

What does A variable represent?

Looks like it’s the thickness of the extruded sketch.

Dimension A represents the non-variable vertical dimension of the model.

I barely ever model with variables (to my shame), so this was a fun little refresher on how to use them! Thanks Shapr team, these challenges are a great idea!

Had a go. I don’t typically model on the basis of parametric dependencies. But it did give my brain a bit of a work out which was good.

Sorry. Removed the screen shot. Didn’t see the requirement not to share.

Submission deadline is Sunday. There is still plenty of time to participate!

That’s a wrap on Challenge #1.

Huge thanks to everyone who submitted. The response to Week 1 was fantastic and sets a great tone for the rest of the season.

Before we get to the scores, here’s the solution:
