Season 2 Challenge #1 is DONE | Extrude 1/5

The wait is over.

Yesterday, we announced that Season 2 kicks off today, but kept the first challenge as a secret. Now, the wait is over—it’s time for the big reveal.

Welcome to Batch 2: Extrude.

Over the next five weeks, you’ll take on five modeling challenges designed to push you beyond your usual Shapr3D workflow. Each challenge comes with a specific set of tools you’re allowed to use, so you’ll have to find a solution using only what’s provided.

And yes, there are some valuable prizes waiting for the top performers:

:1st_place_medal: 1st place: $150 voucher + 1,000 Genren tokens + exclusive merch + digital community badge
:2nd_place_medal: 2nd place: $100 voucher + 500 Genren tokens + exclusive merch + digital community badge
:3rd_place_medal: 3rd place: $50 voucher + 250 Genren tokens + exclusive merch + digital community badge

Now, let’s get started.

Challenge #1: Model a Minimalistic Stand

Your first challenge is a warm-up: create a simple, minimalistic stand according to the technical drawing below.

Your constraints

For this challenge, your Design History may contain only Sketch, Extrude, and Construction tools.

Using any other tool will result in an invalid submission.

What you need to submit

Submit a screenshot of your project via this link, following the guidelines in the form, by Thursday, August 20, 23:59 CEST.

Your submission will be checked against the challenge requirements, and successful entries will be added to the leaderboard.

How scoring works

Every challenge is an opportunity to earn points:

  • 10 points — complete the challenge

  • 6 bonus points — successfully complete the model

  • 5 points — 1st submission

  • 4 points — 2nd submission

  • 3 points — 3rd submission

  • 2 points — 4th submission

  • 1 point — 5th submission

  • 3 extra points — after participating in 3 challenges

  • 10 extra points — participate in all 5 challenges

So you don’t have to be the fastest person in the community to compete. Show up, keep participating, and keep collecting points across the season.

One important rule

Don’t share your solution or the final body volume until the challenge is over.

You can discuss the challenge, ask questions, and share your approach, but keep the final solution to yourself until the deadline has passed.

If you hit a wall, ask the community. Someone might point you in the right direction without giving away the solution.

Let Season 2 begin!

Submission form isn’t working.

Worked for me. This time it’s just a screenshot, not a shapr file.

I know. But it keeps failing for me. It doesn’t seem fair, considering that a different number of points will be awarded depending on the submission order.

We’ll note here that you were first. :slightly_smiling_face:

What image format are you uploading? jpg worked fine for me.

I tried jpg and png.

Strange. Maybe a script-blocker or something of that nature in your browser doing some damage? Maybe try another browser.

Already tried that. I guess it could be related to the Google account, which uses a different email address from the one I use here.

Maybe. Would be weird though, as we’re uploading to the shapr account. Still, might be worth giving it a try with a browser completely logged out of your google account.

The form is require to be logged in.

Yeah I’m stumped with this one. Maybe IM the screenshot to Cesar just to lock in your submission. And I will testify that you were quicker than me (as usual, lol).

I’ve done that already

To be honest, this approach doesn’t seem fair to me at all. What difference does it make who submitted the form first? For example, if I spent an hour and you spent half an hour, then you should be first, not me, regardless of when exactly the form was submitted.

My guess it’s to differentiate between all the people who get all 5 right. It’s true, this isn’t really ideal as it mostly depends on when you see the post and when you have time to complete it. Not sure how else to do it though…

Indeed.

Agreed, there’s no other obvious or easy way to do that. I can only suggest making a video of the process and evaluating it based on that.

Worked just fine for me.:+1:

Hey, @Xdrakosha
We apologize for the inconvenience. We tested the Google Form with multiple accounts but were unable to reproduce the issue. It could be that something related to the email address is causing the Google Form to fail. However, the email address you use for the form does not have to be the same email address you use for Community Discourse.

We will use the email address you provide to contact you if you win, so feel free to use a different email address. You could also try opening the form in incognito mode and submitting your application that way, or try using a different email address.

To make sure you can submit future challenges without any issues, please try one of these options. However, for this challenge, we will accept your application via direct message with a screenshot.

Thank you for your understanding.

I tried different browsers in incognito mode. I don’t have any other gmail accounts, just don’t need them. This one is paid google workspace account.

Subido con éxito! Un saludo a la comunidad.

Enjoyed the challenge this week. Wasn’t sure about the volume so i filled mine with water to check.

Challenge #1 of Season #2 is done.

Thank you for participating. We hope you enjoyed this challenge!

Leaderboard will be out on Monday, but before we get to the scores, here’s the solution:

Don’t miss a Challenge #2 that is coming out today at 16:00 CEST!
