Section View switches Off when I select Visualization

When I cut a section view through a residential house hallway, I can see the door in that hallway that I want to apply wood grain to.

When I select Visualization, the section view goes away and I can only see the exterior of the house. So there’s no way to drag wood grain onto the door, let alone rotate the wood grain on the door and door trim.

This seems to be new behavior since the last update.
That’s a serious problem.

It’s not like I can easily zoom in and move the camera into the hallway, it’s a very narrow hallway.
But that is in fact what I’ve had to do.

In order to restore my section view, I had to set a view of the surface I’m using as a cutting plane, and another view I want to see, once the section is cut.
So it’s several steps just to get back to the section view, once I’ve exited Visualization mode.
Why? :man_shrugging:t3:

It’s extremely tedious, and it was never necessary prior to the last update, which forced thumbnails to be a distant 3/4 view.

That update appears to have broken some very important features that I rely on, and I can’t imagine that I’m the only one.

Is this a glitch or was Section Visualization deliberately removed?

You could just isolate the door or hide the parts obscuring the door using the items panel and then apply your material in Visualization.

That’s a good workaround for this scenario, and I appreciate the suggestion.
Even though I use isolate all the time, I hadn’t thought of that.

But of course, there are other scenarios where it wouldn’t work, such as the interior of a cylindrical object. Maybe a row of engine cylinders, where you want to put materials on the cylinder walls, pistons, cranks, etc.

The section capability is so quick and useful, I don’t understand why visualization doesn’t work with section turned on.

It did used to work that way didn’t it? I could swear that it did.
I’d sure like to know why it’s not working now.

Good points and fair question.
