26.190 - Introducing Fill Tool (Beta)

Take on more complex surface modeling workflows with greater control over shape and continuity using the new Fill tool, now in beta.

Try the Fill tool and share your thoughts in the comments below.

I feel like the fill tool will steal att the thunder from being able to cut/subtract directly within a sweep or loft. This is such a “small yet big” improvement!

This looks great! I’ve often struggled with particular organic shapes in shapr, this looks like it fills the gap nicely.

Since updating to this version, I’ve suddenly started seeing tessellation issues. I’ve previously kept the tessellation quality to high (the default) because ever never seen a reason to even try “very high”.

But after the update, no matter the quality settings (and LOD on/off), I’m seeing a lot of this. It clearly feels like a bug since closing and reopening the project fixes it, but something triggers it to return a few minutes later.

You can see in the screenshot that the model currently is very simple.

Let me know what else you might need to know.

I’m having the same problem. It happens regardless of the device (MacBook or iPad). The tessellation – particularly when extruding cross-sections that are already rounded – persists across all subsequent versions. The visualisation also shows this problem.
However, I don’t see any issues with transferring the model to Bamboo Studio. The geometry is flawless. It therefore appears to be purely a display issue.

hello, how can I join beta vesion?

This is in the latest release version, only this tool is “beta”.

edit: I just aimlessly played around with the new fill tool. You can so some really weird stuff with it, I love it! :+1:

How can I get access to the beta? I’ve updated to the latest version, but I still can’t find this tool. Do I need to join the Creator Program to access it?

That’s strange. I’m on the release version, and it showed up in the latest update.

This is becoming pretty annoying, and I’ve noticed reloading the document doesn’t actually seem to resolve it, only an app restart does. But it quickly returns.

Is it a known issue or are we just an unlucky few?

Yes and no.

That’s right. The only solution is to restart.
As soon as you tamper with the geometries in question, you can forget about them being ‘smooth’. Instead, you end up with rough facets which, in cases where the model cannot be reproduced, cannot be smoothed either.

It must be a bug. The same problem occurs regardless of the device (MacBook or iPad). I’m using the latest versions on both.

Daniel is not alone, i also noticed this strange behavior on very simple projects with high settings

You don’t need to join anything, the Fill tool must be available to everybody with Shapr3D version 26.190.x or newer

You can find it in the Tools (side) menu or via Command search with name Fill (beta)

Also, if you need help understanding the different aspects of the tool, you can find relevant information on the corresponding Shapr3D Help Center page

Unfortunately yes, as the others mentioned, this is a known BUG, and we are working on making the best out of the situation.

The problem is that some aspects of the tessellation is done by the Parasolid kernel, and we barely have influence on it.
