Creating a cavity for a nut aligned to a hole

I could use some help creating a nut cavity aligned to a hole. I created the nut profile using the polygon. I created a construction axis for the hole. How do you align the hexagon to the axis and then extrude it to create the cavity? I was able to align the hexagon after I extruded it but I could not then create the cavity as I couldn’t udo the extrusion. I also made a copy of the hexagon for the second cavity but it would not allow that to align.

You trying to make something like that?

If I understand your request correctly, here’s how it can be done.

Thanks. Actually wanted it on the bottom but it moves to fast and the font is way too small for me to follow. I can’t seem to figure out how to step through the video.

Approach is the same

It’s the realtime recording. Press pause then needed and take your time.

Open the video full screen.

You can even download it and inspect it frame by frame.

I down loaded the video. I cannot follow the first step. You select Body 3 and then bottom. Next all I can see with my magnifier in full screen is “Projection result” on the right hand side. What did you select to get that?

OK got it. You selected project and then selected axis 1 and 2. I don’t get a done button. I get a gear.

then

then

These are all just screenshots from the video above.

To help understand what exactly you’re doing wrong, you can upload your own video.

I didn’t select any axis. I selected the center circles of the cylinders above.

What screen do you have?

I have a 16” PC laptop. So I got the projection to work for the bodies and draw the polygon around the center. It then the polygon appears on the top surface and will not move due to locked constraint. When I the polygon it wants me to extrude. I don’t get any constraints to appear. Thanks for your patience.

Are you using some kind of translator? What is your mother tongue?

From the text above, I didn’t understand whether you succeeded or not

Sorry. Just sloppy typing. Like your first video the polygon appears on the top surface and I cannot get it to move to the bottom surface. How did you draw the polygon on the bottom?

You need to select the bottom face of the rectangle and create a sketch on it, just like I did in my video.

Sorry to be so dense but when I go to sketch it does not allow me to select a surface. If I select it before going to sketch it deselects it in sketch. Why cannot move the polygon that is on the top surface?

I started a new model from scratch and it was easily done. I run into this often. Not sure if it because of the PC platform. Things get wonky perhaps due to constraints or something.

I can’t say anything about Windows, as I haven’t used it for over 10 years. However, I can say that I demonstrated your project in the video, and no constraints got in my way.

That’s exactly how it should work.
Share your last variant and I will show how that can be fixed very easily.

Thanks for your help
