I do a lot of projects involving lights and the glow the create. I could fake it to a certain degree when there was a transparency slider on materials but now that is gone.
The glow i am talking about is a soft edge transparent cone that would emanate from the top and bottom or through the holes in a lamp fixture. Wondering it it could be a material had an transparent edge that you could adjust the cone size, glow strength and the blend strength from the centre source point to the transparent edge.
Would help also in creating the look of objects such as this

I completely agree with you! For me, being able to add “light” or “glow” to a material would be incredible. Since I create a lot of houses, interiors and even lamps, being able to add light sources would be super cool.
