How can i create a ribbed surface on a rounded object

Hi Together,

I’m quite new to Shapr3D and have some problems for creating surfaces to objects.

I’d like to make such a ribbed surface but all my tries failed:

I tried making a projection of a sketch to the surface but it will only extrude to the same hight around the opject and when i then try to fillet is not the result i want. also when i try to pattern this around the model it always tells me that the resulting body is invalid.

thanks in advance for your inputs.

Greetings from austria

Think of it as 5 bodies.

To make the main body: Sketch the bottom shape (circles around a larger circle, trim tool the unneeded line segment bits away). Then use the move tool to copy the sketch while moving it up to about the mid section AND then scale it larger. Repeat that Copy/Move again to the top AND scale it smaller. Then use the loft tool to loft the 3 sketches.

Do the same for the head section.

Another similar method that you can look at here:

I used the first method here Planter/Pot

Hi. Thanks for the imput. Lofting is working, but it will create ony a straight connection between the sketches. is it possible to add a radius to the lofted elements?

I didn’t use Loft. I used Revolve, Sweep, Replace Face, and the Pattern Tool.

Make it as one loft. On your image you definitely did 4 separate lofts.

Totally agree that one continuous loft is the way to go for that particular example. Getting back to the original object, using Loft would be difficult to make this feature in my opinion.

Therefore, I suggest using Revolve, Sweep and Pattern.

(Alex, this reply was meant to go to @Thunderpal where he attempted using Loft)

Not so difficult
