How can I made Bézier curves that are not flat?

Hello everyone,

I have a desire to make some designs for sake of practice that are abstract in nature. For some of them I want to sweep along a Bézier curve but I would like the sweep path to move in all three axis (axises?). When I make a curve and select a point to move with the move tool, all the points and not just the selected one moves in that direction.

A work around I’ve tried to play with is a revolve with depth; really and truly, that is the idea of what I’m after, I just don’t want to be locked in on radial and symmetrical geometry. I’ve made some cool stuff with that technique, but I want to push the creative side of it more.

Thanks in advance!

No, 3D splines have been requested but no word on implementation. Last I checked they’re not on the radar of the team or a high priority. Although I would also like to have them implemented.

You can connect several splines in different sketches in all 3 dimensions and then sweep along this path.

@Xdrakosha Will they connect as a single sweep? I haven’t tried since the update but prior it would only go to the end of one sketch on a singular plane.

Just a quick example

I hope video above already gave you an answer

Thank you kindly my friend, very helpful indeed. Still wish it was more open, ie drag nodes in 3d but this will suffice for now haha

Just to give you an alternative option. You can just ignore the sketches and sweep around solid bodies instead. I’ve found this a lot more efficient when modelling conduit and pipes.

This is a very robust workflow if you can define your 3D curves like this, and will work very well with parametric changes.

Here’s another one.

That is by far the coolest workaround I’ve seen yet!! You just made my life an hundred times easier, thank you!

Dang. I dropped two questions a few days ago and checking back they’ve both been answered in a very robust manner. I like Shapr3D but I love the skillset and cordial attitudes of those who use it. Every post (at least for myself as a new user) needing to be approved by a mod is a nice touch, too, especially considering this is oriented around business growth. I like that quite a bit I think.

Definitely will keep this forum in mind as I make more laps around the sun. Thank you all for the help.

You can make everything with Planes.
