How to revolve a thread on a curved surface

I am attempting to revolve a screw thread on the ext. of a curved surface. When i revolve my thread (triangle shape) off the axis, it will naturally not follow the ext. of the body’s curvature its attached to. Is there a way to do this?

You can project a line around the curved surface first.

Hey Stephen, thank you but I don’t see how that would work. Can you send a video?

Can you take the trouble to take pictures or a video of your problem yourself, I don’t really understand your question.

Unfortunately I’m too new to the server to post a video, I’ve adjusted the original wording to try and help you understand. Hope it helps!

If it’s a faintly curved surface you can project the path onto the surface and then create your triangle using the projection as the path:

Unfortunately, if you want to wrap a path around an object, you can’t.
Unfortunately, Shapr3D still doesn’t have a wrap / emboss tool.

For anyone who is curious, I haven’t yet tried it but here is the response I received from Shapr3D

Ticket reply:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us,

Yes, sweeping a cross-section along a projected path could be a solution.

Let me add the video from that support ticket for the record, hopefully, it will help visitors in the future

The following thread in the meantime may be helpful for connecting separate projections accurately:
