Monthly re-review from an early Shapr user

A year ago, Shapr3D was just a toy-- I was forced to use the only other software I could tolerate, Fusion 360. Over the past year I have become intimately familiar with Fusion 360.

But I am quite literally, emotionally invested in the success of Shapr3D. Every day I have to use Fusion 360’s awful UI and each day I pine away for the future where Shapr3D can kick Fusion 360 to the curb.

I keep opening Shapr3D monthly, and each time something that I want has been added.

Fusion 360 is running in circles. They are dog paddling. Whoever is in charge is oblivious. It is only a matter of time before Shapr3D meets them where they are and then surpasses them. This is a fact. As long as Shapr3D doesn’t run out of money before they can accomplish this, Shapr3D will reign supreme and Fusion will be forgotten to time! Shapr3D is on track.

In order to stay this way, Shapr just has to…

  • Never ever recolor and restyle my OS interface elements. Respect the user and don’t make me look at awful Qt/Cordova/Java Swing buttons. If I open it on Windows, it should look like a Windows app. If I open it on Android, it should look like an Android app. If I open it on on MacOS it should look like a MacOS app.
  • It must exactly follow platform conventions. This helps the user, who is overwhelmed, to feel like the Application is not actively hindering their progress.
  • Add fasteners and holes like Fusion 360.
  • I can’t seem to open two Shapr3D projects at the same time. This seems like a huge oversight.
  • I don’t see a way to create assemblies with joints. So I can’t make anything that folds or slides or rotates which is a lot of stuff to exclude.

Now this is great! Straight to the point, and good ideas. Totally agree!
