New Dimension input dialog is a regresion

I don’t usually post here but this required a post, the new dimension input dialog is very hard to use. And requires multiple clicks to get something done when before it was very straight forward and intuitive. For background I’m on an iPad.
For example before when clicking on a dimension with the pencil, the dialog came up and you could immediately start clicking on the numbers. Now they numbers don’t show up until you click on the numbers sign, and it wont work the first time you click it and more times often than not it interprets you clicking the numbers as you writing something with the pencil. Then when you click on the numbers the current dimension is selected so you can’t just time the + sign like before, now you have to deselect the dimension and then type the operation you want to do. This is so much slower than before, please at least give the option to use the previos input system.

I too use and iPad Pro.
Try this…exit Shapr3D and remove it from the background. (do not delete the app)
Restart the app and do dimensioning.

I too had issue, well it didn’t bother me as much, got used to it. I restarted like mike suggested now calculator pops up first! Before it was the input strip.

I think I know the logic behind dimension being highlighted, the app is recommending you to create a variable so it selected the number for you. Selecting is double click vs deselect is single click, lot of the calculator changed to make the new variables possible.

I don’t mind it but there is random white bar at the bottom :man_shrugging:.

Thanks! Yeah the calculator pops up now when clicking the dimensions. But that having the number selected is still annoying. And the other issue is that while it might be a single click to deselect it, the problem is it doesn’t detect a click as a click instead it takes it as if I wrote a . And erases the dimension.

It’s because the scribble feature is on.

For me it just creates " . " at the end but does not delete dimensions. So with the " . " at the end it still doesn’t affect the dimensions, you can continue adding more after.

But for me I just turn the scribble off in the settings, I like the traditional onscreen keyboard.

Can you elaborate on the scribble feature?
I’m on an iPad Pro and cannot find any such setting.

It’s in the Apple Pencil setting, a toggle called Scribble. If you have this feature on it does pencil handwriting when ever there is a text input or if the app supports it.

If you have it on you can handwrite on the calculator’s input field, which is the reason why you get random inputs like the " . ". If you just click it deselects, if you click and drag even a small amount it puts in " . " or something else.

Also if you like scribble you can use your fingers to input on the calculator, no need to use the pencil for calculator when you have scribble on or off.

If you turn the scribble off all the handwriting feature is disabled and click is just a click, it does not add other characters.

On M4 with pencil pro in the settings only:
Hoover
Preview
Shadow
Haptic
And draw with only Apple pencil…:face_with_monocle:

I changed the language to English and the scribble button appeared.:face_with_monocle:

So this must be a language thing in iPad.

I also had to turn this feature off in Windows Settings for Surface Tablet, after we got the expressions update it popped up an writing strip.

On iPad it doesn’t popup writing strip but forces you to write near the input field. Must have implemented scribbling so you can write variable names.

I concur. The new pop-up needs some more TLC…

For one, you can not escape out of if, without the “wrong number” you entered, will be accepted.

And now they made a new dialog, if would have been neat if you could do the settings here. Context based, so an extrude would allow you to set union/subtract/etc, draft angle and single/dual sided.

And angles for revolve. Basically any setting that shows up in history.
So that you don’t have to open the history, open the op you just did and do it there.
This way the little round option gizmo could be eliminated completely, as I see it.

And make so the fillet/chamfer tools function can be chosen here, now that we can’t do e.g. -2 for chamfer, but have to do the 2 extra clicks on the gizmo. That’s pretty annoying too

And yes, I’m on the ipad too. Seems to me like it’s interface is slowly been sacrificed, in order to keep the macos and ipados the same… Really sad, since the clean and neat ipad interface is/was one of Shaprs sellings points…
