The problem that this feature will solve: Currently, there’s no built-in way to document important design information, decisions, and tasks directly within Shapr3D files. As a designer, I need to maintain separate documents or notes outside the software to track design rationale, manufacturing requirements, to-do items, and other critical information. This disconnection between the 3D model and its associated documentation creates a risk of information loss and makes it harder to collaborate with team members who need access to both the design and its context.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature: This feature should allow me to:
- Create, edit, and view notes directly within the Shapr3D file interface
- Attach notes to specific parts or assemblies in the model
- Organize notes into categories (e.g., Design Notes, Manufacturing Requirements, To-Do Items)
- Have the notes persist with the file when sharing or reopening
- Search through notes content to quickly find relevant information
- Export notes along with the design documentation
What can’t you achieve without this feature? Without integrated note-taking:
- I have to constantly switch between Shapr3D and external note-taking apps, breaking my workflow and reducing productivity
- There’s a risk of losing important design context when sharing files with colleagues or manufacturers
- It’s difficult to maintain a clear record of design decisions and requirements over time
- Historical documentation of design evolution and decision-making becomes scattered across multiple platforms
