Offset sketch tool - Link to parent

The problem that this feature will solve:

In both Standard and Parametric versions, it would be useful if the offset sketch tool dimension is linked to the parent sketches. This solves the need to delete the offset and redo or use the offset face tool if you change your mind or need to edit the geometry. This becomes more powerful in the parametric version where you can go back in the history to edit the model.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:

Have an editable dimension between the parent and offset sketches to make editing easier

What can’t you achieve without this feature?

Complex flexible geometry created from offsets, the tool becomes unusable for designs that are in the iteration process of modelling as you often have to delete the offset and redo. In the parametric version all subsequent features linked to this sketch will error and need the profile reapplied.

Is this a workflow blocker for you? Is this why you can’t use Shapr3D for work? Is this slowing you down?

It can be worked around by having 2 separately defined sketches, 1 for the “outer” and another for the “inner” profiles, or using the offset face tool if you need to adjust, but this is slower and unnecessary if it was linked. For simple geometry it isn’t a show stopper, but for complex shapes or if you’re using spline sketches it can be a show stopper or frustrating having to redo work. Many other CAD programs dimensionally link the offset geometry to the parent.

It’s a small but really useful detail.

Definitely a must have. We are already working on implementing this.

Same thing for mirroring in sketches.

Excellent, look forward to it!
