Encourage group discussion and increase peer feedback:
After exporting a model to a web viewing link, the comment feature is useful for soliciting feedback, however, not having the ability to reply to a comment is limiting.
Currently, after adding a comment it appears as a pop up window as shown below.
Then, comments are tallied in a thread on the right.
If after each time a comment was made it opened a comment thread that multiple users could reply to and the summary of individual comments on the right was instead a navigation bar for multiple comment threads, then it would encourage dialogue, facilitate deeper group discussions, and increase overall peer feedback.
A comment-and-reply feature would provide group cohesion and participation, particularly in learning environments.
Students would be empowered to build off and amplify each other’s voices, rather than have a list of individual detached comments. It would enable critique and peer-feedback sessions that strengthen the learning process.
Without this feature, third party apps are necessary to facilitate discussions.
Collaborative whiteboard apps (like Miro and Mural) that have built in comment features, or teleconferencing apps like Zoom and Google Meet are necessary for the level of communication needed when conducting a peer feedback, group discussion, or critique session. However, each of these apps have limitations and require students to juggle multiple apps.
Following the trend of Shapr3D to eliminate the need to resort to third party tools, the extension of a single comment feature to include multiple comment-and-reply threads would be very welcome. Insufficient third party tools could be set aside completely with the inclusion of a more comprehensive communication feature.
