26.10 - Custom materials in Visualization

Import custom materials, sketch with world-axis constraints, and reuse designs faster with multi-project importing.

  • New: Bring your own textured materials into Visualization by importing .glb files. Imported materials are added to your material library and apply to your models like native materials.

  • New: Now you can snap and apply constraints to the world axes during sketching, even when sketching off the default world planes.

  • Improved: Now you can import multiple Shapr3D projects at once from the Import Projects dialog, making it faster to bring in parts and reuse existing designs.

This seems cool. I really should learn how to make use of some of these features if for no other reason than they look nifty. My greedy side however just wants to point out that I use Shapr3D for 3D printing and you should put more effort into features that make me happy.

Speaking of features the last one seemed to have at least some that I thought might be personally useful. I am trying to get a better hang on the whole loft and sweep stuff, because I am seeing evidence from people here that it can be used for really cool things. The last update with the twist feature makes me want to try and create a new lampshade for myself.

Amazing feature update, that‘s what i need! KISS KISS!

I can’t seem to drag and drop into folders anymore with this update.

How do you suggest we make these glb files for texture?

I made a ball in blender applied some materials exported as glb, that worked.

I made a plane in blender applied a picture that worked.

Is there any detailed documentation to make these GLB files?

On a Mac and iPad I can’t drag and drop in the main window of drafts or spaces either. I had to move my drafts to a space and then drag items into the folder list of the space in the left bar.

Are you dragging and dropping on a computer or iPad? I cant seem to drag and drop on ipad. I played with this for a while. The only workaround I found on the iPad was to click and hold to bring up the secondary menu. Then move to the desired location/folder. Click and hold to select paste and it asked me I wanted to move it there. But jeez, talk about a long and non intuitive way to do go about. My guess is they are trying to fix this?

I just edited my post to say “On an Mac and iPad”.

I can drag and drop to a folder in the left “Spaces” menu but not in the main listing of the folders and files in a space like I used to. Since “Drafts” do not show the folder list in the left “Drafts” menu, I had to move the folders and projects to a space in order to drag and drop. That’s better than nothing but drag and drop in the main window is definitely broken.

Will this feature remain in the Pro subscription level, or will it only be available at the Enterprise level? The website states that “Custom material libraries for consistent brand presentations” are an Enterprise level feature, but not sure exactly if this feature is that or something related.

Is there an explanation for how to use the “snap to world axes” feature? I can’t figure out how to do it.

I just tried importing my own material. Which I created with jpg - glb converter - I need to have some finishes for walls.

The file took long to import, but in the end it imported like every color that was present in the file independently. I would gladly attach something, but I can’t as a new user:(

The weird thing is why a GLB file? Why couldn’t we just import a JPG? If it’s only used to repeat a pattern. Unless GLB has some special feature one can utilize.

Drag and drop of project to folder appears to be fixed in latest version (26.20.0) on MacOS at least. I haven’t checked the iPad but I assume it is fixed there as well.
