5.800 - Variables are here

this is an instant improvement. currently, i need to experiment with a honey comb design and the old techniques of using patterns, moving or creating copies etc, introduced mm level tolerance errors all over the place along with a ton of mundane clicking and typing. thanks for listening to the community on this. its extremely appreciated.

1+3/8, for example.

I would suggest creating a Variables filter in the Items tab, would seem more logical to me than in the History tab, but otherwise, thanks for this! great for quickly changing tolerances :+1:

Great work! I think I can finally ditch Fusion 360 completely  (and I’m definitely keeping the Shapr3D subscription)
One small suggestion: It would be nice if you could name variable directly when creating it.

If you are suggesting Variables on the Items list I think thats a good idea vs on the history. I can already resize items list but can’t resize history. Also I like to put variables in a folder and name that folder.

Maybe even a separate section in the left or right sidebar. Like history, traditional items (sketches, bodies, etc.) are subject to an order of creation. Variables are not.

Thank you for developing such a useful function. However, during the use process, I can find that there are ways to further enhance it.The greatest role of variables is to establish connections between these sizes. Why don’t we designate one side as a certain variable? If we specify an edge as a variable, then the value of the variable can be operated by dragging and dropping with our mouse. If this is the case, we don’t need to manually input in the history The effect we get from this operation is similar to a function called equality constraint record.

Just as mentioned in the picture below, what about the defined variable? Its value still needs to be manually entered.

If I change the defined value to the edge of an object or the line segment length of a sketch, in this case, I can operate it with the mouse.

It should be “free” variables. For example to create multiscale fretboard for guitar neck it needs the nonfixed angles on the corners of fretboard to calculate automatically the angle of each fret. so we need binding to the trapezium angles that we get when transform it using “length” variables applied to the sides. or trigonometric functions.

I use fractions all the time but with the update I have to type 2.75 instead of 2 3/4 is there a way that I can get the old keyboard back?

yes I second this suggestion as well. in my opinion it would be a better user experience.
even moderate length variables get cutoff by the history pane’s size.
also it’d be really nice to be able to group them logically with folders.

Love it!
Two ways it can be even better:
Autocomplete when writing variable namnes.
Make variable names not case sensitive.

Maybe I should pop this in Feature request?

@ mention @shapr3d_staff for getting their attention.

May I ask if you have noticed the issue that the DXF files exported by the new version of the software cannot be recognized? Thank you.
