A better history panel

Background

I’m sure others have made similar suggestions, but I have felt some serious inefficiencies in the history panel lately. A shared list of variables and chronological actions at either end causes a lot of scrolling. Almost every time I perform an action, I want to tweak it. That means moving my gaze to the bottom right and expanding the panel first. If I want to change a variable, I have to scroll to the very top. After a while, changing actions and variables means a lot of scrolling. I’m aware of that I can filter variables, but this isn’t a great solution IMHO.

Here is my suggestion:

Separate, collapsable table for variables: Variables are listed in the same panel, but a separate table that can be resized and collapsed. I.e. it shouldn’t matter how far I have scrolled in the action list, the scroll stays the same since this view is only squished together when expanding the variables.

Reverse chronological order for actions (like bodies) :Actions are listed in reverse chronological order (as previously suggested) with newly added actions expanded at the top. Adding a new action will collapse other action panels and expand the new one.

The problem that this feature will solve:

Immediate and simultaneous access to variables without filtering or scrolling. Fewer clicks and no scrolling whenever performing a new action and needing to tweak it or change a variable. A faster workflow.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:

This feature should allow me to perform actions and tweak them faster with fewer clicks. Variables will have a greater presence and gain independence from the action list, allowing me to work with both at the same time. Together this 3 changes will speed up the workflow.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?

Small changes like this save a LOT of clicks in the long run. Keyboard shortcuts are great, but if I still need to click 2-3 times and scroll a bunch to edit the latest action, then I’m loosing just as much time. The action list does scroll for me, but then I can’t see the variables.
