Problem to solve: Ability to use an “Non-Entity” object to draw sketches upon but not extrude/combine when creating 3D objects upon the object.
Description: I 3D print from objects created in Shapr. want to have a template that represents the print bed of the printer so that I can place objects ‘on’ the bed in Shapr and start from the bed as an object but not have the object be modifiable.
Example: If i create the print bed as a solid object and then sketch a square upon its top surface and then extrude to create a box — i want the default to ‘Not combine’ the new object as an extension of the print bed.
Solution: Be able to designate an object as a reference object that is not modifiable/extendable/changeable unless made a ‘normal’ object.
Certain functions like create a plane or align would work but the object itself would be ‘locked’ and only usable as a reference.
I realize i can accomplish the above with a reference plane that is the shape of the print bed (XxY) but I want something more visual and persistent to work from and place objects so that when I export to print I don’t have to rearrange the objects on the print bed.
Solves: Workflow towards end goal of printing 3D object on a real print bed.
Please follow the format below for requesting a feature.
The problem that this feature will solve:
Consider adding screenshots and as many details as possible, to help the Shapr3D team and the community understand why you need this feature. Describing your workflow helps us building the right feature.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
Eg. “this feature should allow me to edit and create constrained assemblies with 100 000+ parts” or “using this feature I should be able to create G2 continuous lofts and manipulate the shape real time” or “with this feature I want to be able to quickly find a part in my designs by searching for its name”.
Understanding the outcomes that you expect from this feature helps us more than describing an actual implementation of the feature that you’d expect.
