I’m making a cattle bale feeder and I need advice on how to align my boards in the center of the pipe.
Unfortunately Align does not currently work directly with non-planar faces (such as the sides of the pipes), but there are multiple ways to do this. I’d consider the simplest one to simply draw the “floorplan” of the feeder and use that sketch and the Translate tool to move your board and pipe to the right place:
The trick here is that when setting the start and endpoints for Translate, you can snap at the middle of the cylindrical face of the pipe, the midpoint of the edge of the board and the intersection of the floorplan sketch and the edge of the pipe – all of what you’d need for this.
If you use the parametric version (available from here, you’d see a “History” icon in the top right corner), you could even adjust the floorplan sketch and have the items move with it.
