I’m trying to create an assembly. I’ve been advised that you can’t import from cloud/remote files (which makes no sense), but you can if you download the file onto your computer.
So I did that, when I import the first part it’s a part, but the second part is imported as a bunch of sketches and bodies. You can see I’ve clicked on one of the bodies, but it changes the part if it’s moved.
I’m aligning them because I’m finding dimensioning them difficult. Normally I would pick mating faces of two parts and dimension from there. With Shpr3d it will only dimension from the xyz point.
Also I can move a body, but it doesn’t update the sketch, the sketch remains in its original position, so how to I dimension the position of the body?
I’m coming from Solidworks where all of these things are very intuitive, but find I’m struggling with the simplest of functions in this program. Is there another CAD program where my Solidworks knowledge would more easily transfer over?
I think what he wants is MBD, 3d dimensioning in Shapr is not really used for that purpose.
Remember we do not have Assembly and MBD so you are using available tools to do what you have done with Solidworks. So your workflow has to change a bit.
We have align tools like Translate and Align they are like Mates.
Dimensioning in Shapr is done in 2d Drawing.
Also it looks like you are on Windows, if you are on windows instead of looking for Shapr that works like Solidworks you can just use Solidworks.
I started on Solidworks/NX but as a MAC/iPad home user I use Shapr. So if you need full featured toolset like Solidwoks I would say NX on windows would be the next option, but you will also have some learning curve just like Shapr.
i regularly design assemblies in shapr3d and it takes some getting used to if you’re coming from traditional CAD like solidworks
it’s easy if you’re coming from options like autoCAD
think of bodies as parts, and folders as assemblies. in your current workflow, switch to exporting the files as parasolid files and not shapr files. that will let you move them around easily once you import them. otherwise, focus on moving bodies and not their parent sketches and features
once you get the hang of it - it’s way way faster than modeling assemblies in traditional CAD
I would like to throw in my 2 cents, assemblies are able to be created using Shapr3d (not easily) but i have been told that a assembly mode would be added to Shapr3d for at least 3 years now and coming from using one of the top Cad software in the industry for 30 years I can tell you that if Shapr3d wants to be a to cad contender they will have to add a assembly mode and be able to just copy/paste or drag/drop parts into assemblies to keep users.
If recent priorities continue, Shapr3D will be relegated to marketing and drafting uses. I’m VERY frustrated that basic modeling tools present in other CAD software are still missing from Shapr.
makes you wonder if the Shapr3d team are even listening to the users if it does not improve by the end of the year I am going to spend my money on a Cad software that will deliver on better command structure based on the users needs. Will be hoping that Shapr3d makes some major improvements.
