Admittingly, I haven’t used shapr3d extensively. … but I do have several years of professional CAD/CAM experience with different tools…
I had hoped shapr3d would neatly fit into my current workflow and needs, but the deeper I dug, the less likely it looks…
here’s a few observations and questions:
First: Assemblies - not a “work around” or the “align” tool..
from the forums this was semi-promised in 2021 - it’s 2025 now and Assemblies are nowhere to be found if I’m not mistaken?
Is there anything definitive on that matter? will this actually be implemenet really soon, or has this essentially been dragging on too long?
Images & Scaling…
One of the things I often need to do (Especially with parts that I’m Plasma CNC cutting) is to work of an existing object … taking a photo with a ruler in it as a reference…
then make the drawing on top of that photo…
But from what I was able to figure out: shapr3D lacks any tool to scale a photo to size?
the closest I was able to do was to scetch a line on the photo… dimension that line, and then move/scale the image until it closely meets the refereced object… but if that’s how it’s supposed to work,. then this is really tedious.
another weird thing:
when sketching… Say I draw a square or rectangle … there is no way to add a fillet / chamfer to a 2-D sketch?? I know how it works with a 3D part - and yes I can add an arc or line, and then TRIM in 2D … but not being able to simply quikcly filltet / chamfer is odd?
