The Question is below.
Topic: Another assembly related topic involving DIMENSION & TOLERANCE.
Background:
Let’s say we have a simple box cube with a nominal dimension callout of 1.000 inch with +/- 0.125 inch tolerance callout on all sides.
These tolerances allow Manufacturing to have some latitude in finished dimensions that will be acceptable for Production. So, worse case (+) tolerance can be 1.125in and worse case (-) tolerance can be 0.875in on any given side(s).
If we draw the model to the exact nominal (ideal) dimensional callout, it would not be the best representation of a worse case fit when it is joined to or joined with another assembly.
In the past, we made identical individual models, each with its nominal (ideal), worse case (+), and worse case (-) dimensions. Substituting the three models for fitment checks is awkward and time consuming at best.
Question:
Is there a way to combine all three dimensions (nominal and +/- tolerances) into a common model in such a way that they can be toggled on command to represent each of the three dimensions for fitment checks?
Thank you, cliff
