Seems anything after this update requires Ventura. This is beginning to cause a big problem as my iPad is updated and the files are becoming incompatible with my Mac.
Your website still says minimum requirements are Monterey, so is the new limitation intentional or an oversight?
Hello and welcome,
The last version I was able to install Sharp3D is V 5.30. To be able to make updates you need at least mac OS Ventura 13.0.
For my part, I’m changing mac largely for this reason because this limitation touches Shapr3D but also some new features on adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and other applications. Eventually, no more applications will work and will not be supported.
If it is your work tool (like me), I advise you to replace your mac with a newer one.
There is a method (patch) to update, but it’s at your own risk.
Here is the link: OpenCore Legacy Patcher
I’m aware of OCLP, but unfortunately my eGPU situation isn’t yet compatible with Ventura on a Mac Pro 2013 with OLCP which is keeping me on Monterey.
My Mac is kind of a hobby PC, really only required to run a slicer for my 3D printer and I like that I can switch over to windows to play some games. So I don’t see much sense in buying a brand new one.
Its just a bit frustrating because I don’t see any major new improvements that would have required them to limit new versions of Shapr3D to Ventura.
New version of OCLP is here.
With the release of OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.5.0 and newer, early support for macOS Ventura has been implemented for most Metal-capable Macs. This page will be used to inform users regarding current issues and will be updated as new patch sets are developed and added to our patcher.
Newly dropped hardware
Ventura’s release dropped a large amount of Intel hardware, thus requiring the usage of OpenCore Legacy Patcher on the following models (in addition to previously removed models):
Just to update here, Shapr3D crashes on startup after updating the OS on the Mac Pro 6,1 to Sequoia with Opencore.
Not really getting any details why from them.
I’m a bit frustrated as I had a perfectly working situation with file syncing between my iPad and Mac, which they broke by dropping compatibility for pre Ventura Macs, without giving any reasons why. Without the iPad functionality in my workflow Fusion 360 now looks more compelling.
As a student and hobbyist I can not justify spending 100s on a new computer just to use this one app, everything else is great with the old Mac. On another level it feels wasteful in this day and age to discard a perfectly working machine.
@VirtualBrown. That’s how they force us to upgrade, by obsoleting our devices.
I have a perfectly working iPad 2 which is about 11 years old. Also I have an early iPhone 3G, good as new.
Many of the apps I used on those devices are no longer supported. Once YouTube stopped working on them after about 9 years, I just put those devices back in the box and bought new ones.
Not sure if it is anything helpful but I am on Sequoia 15.3.1 on a 2015’ish imac. It was working after I did a fresh install on it back in October. Maybe about a month or 6 weeks ago (maybe 2 OCLP updates ago) I noticed Shapr3d stopped working. I have to feel it is more like an OCLP driver issue or something of that nature considering it was working at that time. Now I get a message saying it failed to open and I have no idea how to make heads or tails of the report it provides me. That said I also have a windows laptop and desktop (for gaming). I run Fusion and Shapr3d on them as well as my ipad pro for Shapr3d and that is the nice thing about that license is you can use it on everything except android. I would just buy an affordable laptop or newer ipad that can use the pencil before I moved to fusion. The only thing I use fusion for now days is to insert threads in a project I have already designed in Shapr3d and as soon as they add threading it will be pretty feature complete. Not saying I will be done with Fusion 360 because I still do some sheetmetal stuff for send-cut-send and a future plasma table but if I can switch to lightburn or sheetcam I will probably be moving that direction. Ultimately it will just depend on what plasma table I end up getting.
