Creating a circle divert on a curved surface

Hi,

Does anyone know how i can achieve this curved sphere divet on a curved surface.

Thanks in advance

Create some spheres by revolving a half-circle sketch and then subtract them from your base object.

You just need to create one sphere, then copy it around, scale them and move them to your liking.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried that. The problem is by subtracting the sphere from a curved surface you end up with a oval type shape.

The easy way to fix this would just be to squish your spheres a bit along the z axis. The way to get it absolutely perfect would probably be to use the wrap tool to project a circle sketch on your base object, then project it back on a construction plane to get the correct distortion for you revolved sphere.

There’s probably as easier way, let me think about it..

Yeah i think using the projection tool is the way to go, i’ll have a play around with it Thanks

Ok so your method of working out the distortion to squish the cyclinder does work. Its a bit labour intesive. I would hope there is a better way to do this.

Well there’s a mathematical way to work out the distortion factor of a 2d projection unto a cylinder. Then you could simply scale your sphere along the z axis by that factor.

I really don’t know the formula off the top of my head, but this might actually be something a chatbot might be able to help fast.
