Problem: Lack of Plug-Ins, Extensions limit functionality.
Difficultly integrating Shapr3D with a CNC workflow.
Suggestion: Plug-In / Extension framework to allow additional features. Example use: CAM Extension/Plug-In to prepare files for CNC.
Shapr3D is an incredibly intuitive software, but without the ability to prepare parts for manufacturing, it has little use for woodworking, metal fabrication, or other small-business manufacturing processes. I want to justify buying a Shapr3D subscription, but currently I have to use other software, such as Fusion360, to prepare my models, and thus it’s faster and cheaper to design them in Fusion360 to start. If there were extensions developed by Shapr3D, or an extension framework that 3rd party developers could use, Shapr3D could become far more valuable to a wider range of users without compromising the simplicity of the software for those who don’t need the extra features.
How it could work: Extensions could be part of a separate environment, similar to the current 2D Drawings environment in Shapr3D. I would love to see an extensions/plugins library similar to SketchUp, or native plugins developed by Shapr3D as paid extras.
Expected Outcomes: Personally I would like to use Shapr3D to model components for manufacturing on a CNC machine. More generally, I would hope to see features that aren’t core to Shapr3D’s primary mission implemented as Plugins / Extensions, and for the improved functionality to increase Shapr3D’s marketshare / user-base.
What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Preparing components for CNC manufacturing.
