I am new to all this and this is my first project.

I am trying to mount this cylinder on a 3mm base plate. It is a hollow cylinder, when I hide the base plate but the base plate blocks the centre hole. I need the hole to run through the base plate.

Also, what do I do to select only the portion underneath and remove it.

Sorry if my terminology is incorrect, first timer.

Welcome here!

You can use the split body tool, and use the bottom face of the base plate as the plane to split. After that, you can select the newly separated bottom part as a separate body, and delete it.
