Currently, every time you add a new modelling step, you have to scroll to the bottom of the history tree every time you want to configure the step. For example, when extruding a sketch and you want to change it from a ‘new body’ to ‘union/subtract’ means you have to repeatedly scroll to the bottom of the tree. This is really unintuitive as if your tree is especially long, it is frustrating to have to keep scrolling to the bottom of the list.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
Please provide a ‘sort’ option for the history tree. The option to invert the order of the history tree so that new modelling steps are placed at the top of the tree rather than the bottom. The current default of having new modelling steps automatically going to the bottom of the tree makes little sense and is not intuitive at all. Providing an option to invert the tree meaning new modelling steps added are placed at the top of the tree would be a dramatic quality of life improvement.
What can’t you achieve without this feature?
It’s an ergonomic nightmare having to scroll to the bottom of the tree every time you want to change a setting within a new modelling step. It slows workflow dramatically and is not intuitive. A ‘tree’ grows UP not down!
The sort option could be added within the menu seen below. The existing menu symbol even looks like a ‘sort list’ option anyway! This makes the current symbol confusing!
Thanks for the comment. The more comments and engagement we can get on this thread, the more chance we can have the feature implemented! It really is a workflow efficiency disaster currently!
Thanks for your engagement. I do mean with my feature suggestion, the option to ‘reverse’ the order of the list. Maybe to some the phrase ‘invert’ doesn’t make sense to some sorry.
If a traditional sort menu option to ‘reverse’ the history tree list was implemented, this would be great. This would provide Solidworks users like myself (as well as most other users) with a more intuitive option to use the tree, whilst still offering the legacy tree order option for those users who prefer it.
+1 The longer the list, the more time I spend on scrolling to the bottom. Most commands I also want to alter directly. Reverse order is the same order as most email applications - Latest First. If this command also would automatically expand its options, it would function as the dialog in Fusion, which I like very much.
I agree with all of this. Love the email list example as this strengthens the point that Shapr3Ds current history tree order is unusual. Thanks for the comment
Agreed, the scrolling is time consuming. Another method could be to just have the list always scrolled to the bottom by default, such that every time something new is added the bottom of the list is automatically displayed so that you don’t have to scroll to get there. I’m impartial to either method, just as long as one of them gets implemented. As a programmer I can tell you that it will be easier to auto-peg the scroll bar to the bottom compared with re-sorting the list in reverse, so that fix would be faster to implement.
I like the idea! I trust your knowledge on the matter and agree that even if the list was always scrolled to the bottom this would boost workflow efficiency greatly!
