How can I prevent two objects from connecting

i am trying to create a simple building. When I sketch different walls, they cut holes in the floor plate. How can I make the floor plate and each additional object remain separate objects?

After you extrude a wall, click on the little gizmo next to the shown dimension. From there select New Body or Union depending on what you want to do.
