This little plate for covering holes from a ladder mount that was removed on a clients RV. It was my first. Ten minutes and printed 6 in half hour.
But the reason I got a 3D printer was to design/ flesh out a different kind of home. An idea that was stuck in my head since I was 20. It was based on a design called a Gothic Arch Dome.
This is the reason I fell in love with Shapr. I was finally able to design with ease! It came so naturally to design with Shapr.
This project has sort of back shelved itself. I am hoping to spark some interest as an open source design project. It is self supporting, wind and earthquake “resistant”, scalable. It can be 6 or 8 side and I believe it could be manufactured relatively cheaply. The panels could be selected from a catalog, delivered and assembled on site in a day or 2 by a couple guys. Potentially 3D printed: internal cell insulation, internal horizontal and vertical raceways for steel rod stiffeners, electrical and plumbing. Twist locks to hold the panels together. Second story possible with storage above that. Possibly internal or external stairway… So much stuff to flesh out still locked in my head. Modular living.
Or maybe I’m just crazy. ![]()
