I haven’t used shapr3d for a few months and it looks like they made a change. I draw using my iPad and pencil. I have to use imperial so I input dimensions using fractions. But the input method has changed, the keypad no longer has the fractions input. I found i can input by the screen keyboard but if I input sat ⅛ my iPad makes it small and then it isn’t accepted and I have to go back in and catch it before the iPad changes it. This is now the worst drawing program for me. I’ve used it for years and now thinking of ditching it. It used be perfect for my workflow, now it’s just frustrating.
Hi
There have been a lot of remarks about fractional input issues and Imperial unit working, since the update.
Don’t be surprised if there is a fix to the widget in the coming weeks
Same. I cancelled my subscription until it is fixed. Thankfully my MacBook hasn’t updated to the newest version so I can work on that until there is either a fix or my subscription runs out. Clearly there is nobody on staff the understands how imperial units work or how to use them.
Haha, I just opened my MacBook version and it said there is a newer version to download, so I did. It replaced my older version and when I opened it, guess what……my MacBook operating system is too old and won’t work. And now my older version of shapr3d is gone. This just keeps getting better. I guess it’s time to invest in a real cad program.
I’m furious about this bullshit with the fractional elements suddenly being an issue. I’m getting really sick and tired of this constant tampering with the interface. I have my work flow, it keeps me productive. These stupid, pointless tweaks are nothing more than some egotist putting his or her stamp on it; doesn’t improve it, makes you relearn for no benefit and wastes time, it’s infuriating. I’m writing to Istvan directly to address this, it needs to stop or my generally positive and supportive tone over the last few years is going to change dramatically.
I 100% agree with you. I am not even sure how many years I’ve used this program. Over 4 years for sure. I don’t use it everyday but when I need it I don’t want to have to relearn the software. Autocad etc., are all way too much to learn for what I need, and I understand improving a product but getting rid of the only way of inputting dimensions is utterly idiotic. Who designs a new feature and doesn’t realize they removed the most important tool. I would like to hope they fix this issue but by the time it’s fixed I will have gone elsewhere, I have work to do and this doesn’t help right now.
I’m never going elsewhere, I love this software, and it’s become essential to my workflow but it drives me nuts when they keep making changes that make no sense. The whole point of having something so elegant on the iPad is I just pick it up and start working, immediately get into the head space. And instead of iterating a design with a potential client this afternoon, I had to print off a list of decimal conversions so I could enter it because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. I spent an hour trying to sort it out. I usually work metric but this client does not.
Good luck finding one that runs on an iPad.
I have 5.791 and do not have any issues using iPad. Put brackets around fraction.
I see the video you did thanks. But how did you get the / mark? Are you using a key board? It’s not on the virtual keypad.
If I use the iPad virtual key board I can do it however I have to switch from pen, then hit shift9, 78 inches, space, shift+, space, 1/8 (which the iPad wants to condense to ⅛ which won’t work ), shift0. All to get, (78 + 1/8 in). When in the previous system it took a couple seconds with the pencil. It’s just frustrating but I appreciate the input.
I know, thanks for the input
I am not seeing what you’re experiencing. This shows the keyboard that automatically comes up in shapr3d. I click on it and then use the iPad keyboard. Have you tried rebooting your iPad.
.
I see that using the small floating keyboard makes better sense. You don’t need to hit shift9 and shift0 to get the brackets. But I still have the issue that in your video you type a fraction like 1/8 and that works, however when I type ⅛ it does this. And I have to catch it before my iPad changes it and stop the change. The other poster that showed the previous input number pad, the older version, shows how easy it was. I never had to put down my pencil or change keyboards or make the dimension into a math equation. I get that some people want to use the input box to do math equations but at least offer both versions rather than alienate some of the users.
This is exactly what I am used to and it was brilliant. Super fast input for fractions. Wish you could choose what version you want to use.
I understand. The fact remains, shapr3d made a change (good or bad). All you can do is send them your comments. You have something going on with your iPad when typing in fractions that myself and/or others are not experiencing. You need to check your settings on your iPad to see what is causing your issue.

Hi Allan, I do appreciate all the input people have given me on this issue. I did figure out what is happening with the fractions. I dug into it on my phone and found under keyboards there is text replacement. It has always done that and I’ve never changed anything so not sure why my systems were set that way. Looks like I will have to delete all the fraction replacements and then it should work normally. If I didn’t use this for construction I would just do all my drawings in metric, but until then, again, appreciate the input.
Great find… glad your issue with fraction resolved.
