With the iPhone Ultra (whatever it’s called) looming on the horizon, I’d love to know if support for at least the inner screen is feasible. Being able to design almost everywhere would be game-changing, and I could easily see it being a way to draw people into the ecosystem.
We’ve discussed phone support several times over the years and have even created mockups and prototypes. The biggest challenge has always been input, specifically, the lack of Apple Pencil support on iPhones. We haven’t found an interaction model that feels good enough for precise 3D modeling using touch alone, and we don’t want to compromise the experience just to make it work.
Does this mean that If the Apple iPhone Fold or whatever supports the pencil, you’ll release it?
Supporting new devices, form factors, or platforms is always a tradeoff between the cost of implementation and maintenance and the number of users who would benefit. Since Apple has not announced any details, it’s impossible to assess either of these factors at this stage.
Additionally, because of how the App Store works, supporting foldable devices may also require supporting all iPhones. That would represent a significantly broader requirement.
Having navigated the iPad app without my Apple Pencil, i understand this position. I guess i will hope for Apple Pencil support and exclusive features come September.
What about just a viewer app to start? It would simplify presentation of models to collaborators/clients greatly, especially when using the AR feature
