Is it Possible to Copy a Body "in place" Without Moving it?

I am having an issue with the Copy function when using it in conjunction with Bodies.

Sometimes, before making changes, I just want to duplicate a body ‘in position’, then hide it in case I need it later. However, whenever I click the 'Copy" button, nothing happens UNLESS I move one of the arrows or rotate the part. IOW, it doesn’t appear to actually copy the body UNTIL I move it in some way. So I end up moving it, generating the copy, and then having to re-align the copy with the original before proceeding.

Is there another way to duplicate a body in place?

Not at present. However, when you move the copy, you can type 0 into the move distance before accepting the change. That will keep the copy and position it exactly where the original was.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that. It’s certainly more efficient than my workaround, that’s for sure.

I suppose some people might find the “copy and move” thing useful, but IMO, when the copy button is activated, it should mean just that-- duplicate the highlighted body and that’s it. Seems to me what a user then does with that copied body should be a separate function.

And if I may–sorry to vent-- the fact that once “copy” is activated it STAYS in copy mode until one deselects it is also rather annoying.

I don’t quite get why the default “copy” function, in reality, means: “You Need to Move the body but then it will generate multiple copies until you deselect it”-- when the common sense function would be: click the copy button, it copies the body, and then that’s IT. If one wants to make multiple copies there should be an option for that, but not as default. I can’t tell you how many times I copy something then forget to deselect the copy button and it starts making more copies each time I move the body.

I find that more useful than annoying. It makes creating multiple copies easy. If I forget to turn it off, there’s always undo.

I find this annoying as well, I wish to have some kind of Copy Toggle in the settings.

But I got used to it, one of those things if they change it it will annoy the other half who like it.

The thing that annoys me is making copies rotationally. When I duplicate and rotate without thinking and more instinctively I just expect 1 continuous operation. I didn’t intend to duplicate plus make copies during rotation.

True.

Yes, one thing I find very disappointing about the app is the general lack of customizable settings. The settings menu is very basic, only allowing the individual user a few choices for personal customization. Maybe they do that to minimize the file size of the app so it runs smoothly. . . not sure. But it’s frustrating

Yes, I just recommended this as a feature request, as „User Defined Presets“, although the Staff doen‘t seem to see it…
