Material to wrap sphere segment

Hi , my names phil , new to this kinda thing but trying my best …
I am wondering is there a way to work out the development on a spherical segment ?
I’ve used projection tool and it seems to me that the shape is incorrect for wrapping the piece

I’ll try and explain a bit more …
I have created a bowl , and am trying to work out a way t wrap it in segments so they are all even , it’s like pattern development if that makes sense
